When Death Comes Knocking on your Door... (poem 2026)

When Death Comes Knocking on your Door...
Let him in...
Welcome him with open arms...
Offer him your hospitality...

Sit him at the kitchen table...
With a nice goblet, or glass...
Offer him a nice plate of food...
Offer him cigarettes and Wine...
Booze, Beer, and Liquor...
And give him a pleasant time... a blast...

Make him happy...

With funny conversation, and camaraderie...
Spend the darkest night with your chummy guest...
And when his belly is full...
And he told his darkest humour, laughing...
And you told your life story jokingly...
With a cigarette in his skeletal hand...
Holding a nice Cocktail, in the other...
And the night cap begins to end...

And then your friend is so tired,
He forgot why he even came...

So as he gets ready to leave the party...
You escort him to the door...
He shakes your hand,
And thanks you for the Funtime he had...

And as he walks down the hallway...
Turns, and walks away...
And he disappears into the night...
And you did it without fear or fright...
Amen...
